VingCard Marine
Title: Online Cabin Security and Evacuation
Speaker: Mr Gerald McMillan/Vice President Marine
VingCard Marine is introducing an online locking system as a higher level of security for cabin doors and other areas on board. Using door locks communicating via radio frequency to hubs connected to a central computer on the ship's own network, there is no need for hard wiring of the doors nor a dedicated network. These locks may easily be installed on new ships as well as an upgrade of VingCard offline locks on board. Locks may use magnetic stripe keycards or RFID technology and some of the benefits are instant cancellation of missing keycards, central management of card expiry times, unlimited lists of door openings, real time events and alarms for doors ajar and forced entry.
NCL's Norwegian Epic, which will be delivered later this year, is the first cruise ship to have the system installed
